The vgMasters Challenge! Do you have what it takes?

Since I have seen a lot of reviews saying how terrible the video game versions of the Back to the Future movies are, I decided to put the vgMasters-SpotLight on a little known rare gem of a game that is Super Back to the Future Part II. Only released in Japan, this SFC cart is the only movie to game version of the Back to the Future series that is actually fun to play. Right after you hit start at the title screen, seeing the super deformed version of the main characters, you know you are in for a treat...

Super Future 2 lets us do exactly what we all wanted to do from the first time we saw the movies... ride on a hover board! Right from the get go you get to start zooming as Marty and, ala SMB, you can speed up holding the B button and jump with the A button. The attack can be weird at times, as you do somersaults and have to hit enemies either on the head or on the side. Once you figure out the timing, it's not too difficult to dish out some major punishment to Griff and his gang.

The boss fights are memorable, but not too difficult and usually involve an incarnation of Biff/Griff/etc as you would expect from the Part 2 version of the game. One thing I do enjoy is that during the course of a level, Griff/Biff will send his cronies after you and you must defeat them in order to advance in the stage. Treats a-plenty for fans of the movie.

The music is epic and really gets you into the game. It is a mix of Back to the Future fanfare with a classic touch of that SNES/SFC goodness that made so many games great to experience. The controls are pretty tight considering the fact you are on a hover board the entire game. Super Future 2 was Back to the Future how it should have been done in the first place. It's too bad that this game never got ported to the SNES stateside. Luckily, with some ingenuity and some common sense, you can pick this game up for around 20 bucks and play it in your SNES; just not in English.

Here is some footage of Super Future 2 in action...

I play the first 2 levels and show you how to take out the bosses.
