Gaming sure does have some cute faces, doesn't it? From chubby Italian plumbers, to adorable little blue robots, to... Whatever the fuck Bomberman is. But sometimes, the cute outer appearance of a character isn't exactly telling of their true powers. Sometimes, you might just run into a character whose cute features distract you from the epic power swelling inside their marshmallow-esque bodies and the evil hiding behind their smiling faces. If you've read my blogs for any amount of time, you'd know that I'm, more or less, obsessed with beat 'em ups. So, here's my chance to unleash a massive amount of fan wankery upon you poor, unsuspecting readers. Now, there are a few blatantly obvious games that almost always appear on these lists, and this time around, I'm excluding them because everyone already knows they're great. So, you won't be seeing Double Dragon, Final Fight, Turtles in Time, Simpsons Arcade, or anything like that. That doesn't mean they aren't fantastic games - they most certainly are - but I'm not mentioning them solely because everyone else already has. So, here we go, the ten best beat 'em ups... Games come and go, it's a fact. A game can be in the spotlight one minute, then forgotten within the next year. Gamers are a fickle audience, and only the biggest names have a chance of becoming a game that's remembered for ages. Why did these games receive this fate? Who knows, but I'm going to list a few of them so those of you reading this will consider giving the games a chance.

Last year there was no thought in my mind about playing a new 2D console Mario game, but here we are with a brand new one and it's a great one at that! Not only do we get some beautiful graphics and tons of new levels to play, but we also get 4 player gameplay at the same time!
Sure we call it Asshole Mario Bros when you do multiplayer, but it's just a new type of strategy we all need to develop in order to master this new era of Mario. Nintendo followed suit of gaming companies like Konami and Capcom by releasing updated 2D games and as they always do raised the bar up another notch.
