I had today off of work so I made a few custom cases. I started off with the first HuCard custom case of my collection, Dragon Spirit for the PC Engine. Basically the game clips in where the instruction booklet/insert does in the DVD case.
Next up was a couple of Famicom games I've had without the cases. I always wanted to get Splatterhouse complete in the case and to me having a version in the custom case is just as good since it now matches the rest of my NES collection. Contra is one of the few games that is much better on the Famicom then on the NES. I like the art for the US version better so I used that box for my case.
I also decided today to start making cases for my Gameboy collection. I picked out a few classics and also made a few cases from the games I own from the Mega Man franchise. Since I own the original Mega Man complete, you can also see the comparison from the actual box to the custom case.

So I've found tons of treats this year at the Chibi-Pa anime convention. I ran my own retro competition but of course I can't help but find some gaming collectibles while I'm at it. But, before I get to my weekend finds, here's a treat I found online for under $5. A complete copy of R-Type for the Sega Master System!
Next up is the repro that I just got from RetroZone and used the finals of my retro gaming competition at the convention. The 1992 Super Nintendo Campus Challenge.
Read on to see what I found at this year's convention.

Taking the lead from one of our newer contributors Nathan and his Video Games Are Rad site, I am going to start doing more column based retro finds instead of doing videos all the time. Also, since I've been collecting for a long time, every now and again I'll throw in extra treats that I've had for awhile as a bonus. Here are some of my finds from this past weekend...
I found this little beauty on Amazon for pennies. It's complete and I am on my way to completing the ToeJam and Earl collection. I already have Panic in Funkotron (Which I still need comlete) so all that's left is the original!
Mutant League Hockey is a game I promised my beautiful (soon to be) wife that I would purchase as soon as I found it reasonably priced. While it wasn't too cheap, I had to pick it up when I saw it was complete with manual and had a flawless box! I have so many memories as a kid with all the gore that is the Mutant League Genesis games.

After this weeks retro finds and brainstorming what to write about in the column, I came up with a great idea. I am going to post tips in how to become a better retro collector and gamer. Basically how to go about finding the best retro stuff out there, whether it be online, or in your local area. This column I am going to concentrate on local retro collecting, which is equally as important as online. Read on and hopefully I will be able to pass on a little bit of my knowledge to you...

This weekend I checked in at my local retro video game store and what do I see in a glass case? A Sega Nomad! What is a Sega Nomad and why am I so pumped about finding it? Gaze at the picture below and read on as I talk about the legendary rare Sega portable that no true collector should be without... Also I will go into the few other treats that I located over the weekend.

So here is my first post into my wonderful world of retro game collecting. Today I will cover the art that is Custom Case Creation and more specifically modding Universal cases to use NES cartridges. This is a step by step tutorial so you can make your own custom cases too! After that is my recent retro finds, which I will post at the end of each article that I write.
So you have a ton of cartridge based video games and don't have the boxes to display them mint. That sucks doesn't it? Well have no fear my retroites, Hagen is here with the next best thing...custom cases!

Since I am obsessed with retro video games and my OCD-ness has be constantly getting new games, consoles and other video game related items, I will be doing a column documenting my adventure through the depths of retro game collecting. I am going to keep it focused on gaming as I don't have enough time in the day to go over all my collecting hobbies... As always I will make a new column as I get time, as just doing site admin work is time consuming.
In this first column, I'm going to go into a little bit about what it is being a retro game collector and levels of obsession. As I do new columns I'll post pictures of my newest additions to my retro room and how I obtained each piece. But first off, what is being a retro game collector?
